Profile
Ashley joined the Insurance Litigation group at Beard Winter LLP in 2013. She specializes in civil litigation with a particular emphasis on insurance defence including personal injury, accident benefits, occupier’s liability, property damage, and general liability claims. Ashley graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She received her Juris Doctorate (J.D.) in 2011 from the University of Windsor and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2012. Ashley is an active member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Advocates’ Society. Ashley has a unique perspective on litigating accident benefits claims having previously been employed at the adjusting level by a large insurer. She also previously practiced at a well-recognized boutique plaintiff personal injury law firm in Toronto.
Ashley has made several appearances at the Superior Court of Justice and Financial Services Commission of Ontario. Her recent notable decisions include Ismail v. Nitty’s Food Services Limited, 2014 ONSC 4140, where she successfully opposed a plaintiff’s motion to add further defendants to the action beyond the limitation period, and Chen and State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, FSCO A13-006689, where she successfully brought a preliminary issue hearing to dismiss an applicant’s action as a result of his failure to attend insurer examinations.
