Description
Kaisha Thompson is an associate lawyer in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, practising in the Advocacy Group. She is a problem-solver with experience working on complex litigation matters. Kaisha’s practice is focused on the areas of Indigenous, construction and health law.
Kaisha regularly provides advice to First Nations on a number of issues, including trust law issues. She also deals with construction matters and disputes. In addition, she has experience with class actions and commercial litigation matters. Kaisha has represented clients before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Small Claims Court and the Health Professionals Appeal Review Board. She has presented at conferences on topics related to First Nations trusts and the duty to consult and accommodate.
Kaisha holds a law degree from Queen’s University, where she was awarded the Dean’s Key for excellence in academics and volunteerism in the community. During her time in law school, Kaisha worked as a caseworker at the Queen’s Legal Aid Clinic and represented a variety of clients before the Ontario Court of Justice and Social Benefits Tribunal. Kaisha also has a Master of Arts in Indigenous Governance from the University of Victoria.
In addition to her legal practice, Kaisha sits on the Board of Directors for Dress for Success – National Capital Region. She has also been active in politics for more than a decade and acted as a senior adviser to several campaigns across Ontario.
