Richard Auger had been practicing law for around seven years when in 2004 he burst onto the national legal scene, representing a key witness at the well-known Gomery Commission into the federal sponsorship scandal.

As one of the youngest lawyers acting for a major player at the Gomery Commission, it was a noteworthy appearance. That it came just two years following his work on another high-profile case, the Computer Leasing Inquiry in Toronto, only solidified his national legal reputation as a tough, relentless and well-prepared lawyer.

Since then the Auger Hollingsworth lawyer and owner has appeared in other high-profile cases, such as representing Karlheinz Schreiber in the 2009 Mulroney-Schreiber Oliphant Public Inquiry.

It all adds up to a startlingly successful career for the Ottawa native and graduate of both Carleton University (law/psychology) and the University of Ottawa (LLB). After his call to the bar in 1997, Richard worked at well-known legal firms McCarthy Tétrault and Edward Greenspan, Q.C. and Partners before launching Auger Hollingsworth Personal Injury Lawyers.

Richard’s unique mix of criminal and civil litigation expertise means he’s always well-positioned to represent all client needs. He was a recipient of the 2006 Forty Under 40 award by the Ottawa Business Journal, and has been quoted or interviewed by several major media outlets including CTV, The Globe and Mail, Ottawa Citizen, National Post, Toronto Star, Ottawa Citizen and Montreal Gazette. He’s also taught Trial Advocacy as a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa law school and as coach of the University’s Arnup Trial Advocacy team.
